Hope Scholars Honduras, an organization dedicated to empowering Honduran students through faith-based education, is committed to responsible stewardship of the generous contributions we receive. This Financial Transparency Policy outlines how we manage and allocate donations and our commitment to providing financial and academic progress information to our supporters. We aim to honor the trust placed in us by ensuring donations directly support our mission to break the cycle of poverty and emigration through education. Donations to Hope Scholars Honduras are used to advance our mission of providing scholarships and holistic support to Honduran students. Contributions are allocated across three key areas:

• Educational Support: Funding tuition, school supplies, uniforms, transportation, and supplementary learning resources to ensure access to quality education.

• Living Expenses for Unsupported Students: Providing stipends or direct support for basic needs, such as food, housing, clothing, and healthcare, for students lacking familial or social support.

• Holistic Mentorship and Community Engagement: Supporting case workers, spiritual mentors, and community activities, including church partnerships and trauma-informed counseling, to foster students’ emotional and spiritual growth.

We strive to maximize the impact of every donation by minimizing administrative costs and prioritizing direct support for students and their communities.

Financial Oversight

Hope Scholars Honduras maintains rigorous financial oversight to ensure accountability and integrity in the management of donations. Our practices include:

• Segregated Accounts: Donations are held in dedicated accounts separate from personal or unrelated funds to ensure proper allocation.

• Regular Audits: Financial records are reviewed periodically by internal leadership and, where applicable, external advisors to verify accuracy and compliance with organizational goals.

Transparency and Access to Information

We are dedicated to transparency and provide supporters with access to both financial and academic progress information, including:

• Academic Progress Reports: Regular updates on students’ academic achievements, available in the Scholar Dossier section of our website at www.hopescholarshonduras.org/scholar-dossier, showcasing the impact of your support.

• Financial Information: Summaries of donation allocation, annual financial overviews, and an expense ledger detailing expenditures, available upon request.

• Program Updates: Information on specific initiatives funded by contributions, shared through newsletters or upon request.

To request financial information, such as the expense ledger, or for additional details, please contact us via our contact page.  We will respond within 10 business days, subject to reasonable limitations to protect sensitive data (e.g., personal student information). Certain detailed records may require additional time to compile or may be subject to legal or privacy restrictions.

Donation Acknowledgment

All donors receive acknowledgment of their contributions, including a confirmation of the amount and date received, typically via email or written correspondence. These acknowledgments serve as a record of your support and our commitment to transparency. For donations sent to our partner, Smyrna Church of Christ (112 Division St, Smyrna, TN 37167), please include “Hope Scholars Honduras” in the memo line, and we will ensure proper tracking and acknowledgment.

Commitment to Ethical Fundraising

We adhere to ethical fundraising practices, ensuring that:

• Donations are used solely for the purposes outlined in this policy and communicated to supporters.

• We do not sell, rent, or share donor information with third parties, except as required by law or to facilitate mission-related activities (e.g., coordinating with church partners, with donor consent).

• All fundraising communications are truthful, transparent, and aligned with our faith-based values.
